Linux Support Engineer (Rome, Italy)

IdealStaffs Consulting is looking for a candidate with strong implementation, support and troubleshooting experience in large operational environments of Linux Support infrastructure.

As part of the Unix/Linux support, the consultant will provide on-going support and implement service enhancements, consisting of 1300+ unix based servers, and related services and will participate in the automation projects and tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain Linux systems (Red Hat, Oracle Enterprise Linux, CentOS)

  • Implement configurations related to kernel, storage, security etc. as well as to standard tools for backup, monitoring and management

  • Propose and implement improvement on the environment

  • Perform regular OS patching activities

  • Identify and troubleshoot known problems and document solutions

  • Perform required tasks during maintenance windows & conduct periodic on call duties

  • Write and handover standard operations procedures to TIER1 support.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Strong experience with Linux system administration

  • Strong experience utilizing UNIX shell

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP stack

  • Experience with the common Linux service (Apache, MySQL, SMB, postfix, …)

  • Strong process automation and optimization skills

  • Scripting skills in tools such as Shell, Perl and Python

  • Systematic problem solving approach accompanied by a strong sense of ownership and drive

  • Proficient in English

Desirable qualifications:

  • 5+ years of administering Linux systems

  • Experience with Puppet and similar management tools (e.g. Red Hat Satellite, RH IDM, etc.)

  • Experience with Solaris installation, configuration & management

  • Experience with containerization such as LXC and docker

  • Knowledge of Storage Area Networks, LAN, WAN and Internet technologies and protocols

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Atlassian (bamboo, bitbucket) and GIT
